Dave Brytus

David A. Brytus (born July 14, 1986) 6'4" 235 lbs is an American football punter and current free agent in the National Football League. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in April 2009 by the Baltimore Ravens. He played collegiate football at both Purdue University and the University of Pittsburgh. Brytus is also a boxer and mixed martial arts fighter.

High school career

Brytus attended West Allegheny High School in Imperial, Pennsylvania and graduated in 2004. He was ranked the #5 kicker in the nation by rivals.com and he was selected to play in the prestigious Big 33 Football Classic all-star game which features the top football players from both Pennsylvania and Ohio. He was also named to The Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AAA All-State Team (first team) as a senior after missing his entire junior season due to a broken leg. Brytus verbally committed to play college football at Purdue University prior to his senior season in high school and officially signed in February 2004.

College career

At Purdue (2004–05): Two-year starter at punter...as a sophomore in 2005 was named to the Ray Guy Award Semi Finalist List which is given annually to the nations best collegiate punter...dropped 22 of his punts inside the 20-yard line (35%)...had a season-long punt of 56 yards against Iowa...his freshman year in 2004 Brytus averaged 40 yards on 53 punts...placed 15 of his punts (28%) inside the 20...had a then career-long 63-yarder against Michigan...capped his freshman year by being named the Sun Bowl's Most Valuable Special Teams Player after averaging a career-best 48.9 yards on eight punts, including a career-high (tied) four that landed inside the 20 against Arizona State. At Pittsburgh (2006–2008):Joined Pitt as a transfer from Purdue in January and sat out the 2006 season under NCAA guidelines...Became the Panthers starting punter in 2007. placed 18 punts inside the 20-yard line (27%)...had a career-long punt of 66 yards at Rutgers...averaged 40.2 yards on six punts overall vs. the Scarlet Knights...averaged 45.0 yards on five punts vs. USF...had a long of 56 vs. USF and matched his season best with three punts inside the 20...making his Pitt debut, averaged 45.4 yards on five punts and dropped one inside the 20 against Eastern Michigan...performance earned him Big East Special Teams Player of the Week honors...averaged 44.9 yards on seven punts at Virginia, including a 64-yarder...dropped a season-high three punts (seven attempts) inside the 20 against Syracuse...averaged 40 yards on seven punts vs. UConn with two inside the 20...averaged 40 yards on eight punts at Louisville with a long of 49.

Professional career

Brytus signed with the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL in April 2009. He was later released to free agency. He attended a workout with the San Diego Chargers in December 2009. He is now currently a free agent.

Mixed martial arts

Brytus was scheduled to fight in the Ultimate Warrior Challenge against current UFC Heavyweight Fighter Brendan Schaub on February 21, 2009 in Washington DC at the Patriot Center. However, one week prior to the fight, Schaub suffered a broken bone in his hand and was forced to back out. Brytus is also a former Pennsylvania Golden Gloves Heavyweight Boxing Champion and two-time Pennsylvania State Karate Champion.
