History

During his days at MIT, Dr. Kanodia was part of the team that built the first two multi-user computer operating systems - CTSS and MULTICS. Up until MIT was entrusted to build a multi-user system, all machines were single-user, and only one program could be run on the machine at a time. MIT picked up a team for the project, called Project MAC (Multi Access Computer). As part of this project, CTSS was built based on an IBM machine, the 1794. Many of the software development concepts that are seen today – paging, interrupts – were all borne out of CTSS. The next generation of this system was the Multix, built on a GE 645. Multix was later ported to many other machines, including Prime, which became PrimeOS. From Multix also came UNIX.

Datamatics Global Services Limited set up a Dedicated Offshore Development Center for Wang Labs, USA, in 1983. It later became one of the first companies to establish a satellite link from its software development center in India to AT&T Bell Labs, USA (in 1989). In 1992, it entered the area of electronic publishing. In 2000, it acquired controlling stake in a US-listed data management company (Saztec International) while in 2003 it scaled up a dedicated facility into a Joint Venture in the BPO space through the acquisition of CorPay.

Datamatics was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in 2004. It won the International Asia Pacific Quality Award in 2007. In 2009, the IT and BPO divisions of the Datamatics Group amalgamated to form Datamatics Global Services Limited.
