Barrett at Wally'sBackground information Genres Jazz Instruments Trumpet, songwriter Darren Barrett (b. 1967 England)[1] is a Boston, Massachusetts-based jazz musician who won the 1997 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition,[2][3][4] and teaches at Berklee College of Music.[4][5]

Biography
Barrett was raised in Toronto, Canada, of Jamaican parents.[1][4] He attended Humber College, in Toronto, winning the Boddington's Music Brass Award for excellence in performance.[1] He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Professional Music from the Berklee College of Music in 1990.[1][4] He received "an MA in Jazz Performance in 1993, and an MS in Music Education from Queens College in 1995."[1] In addition to his work at Queens, he also attended the New England Conservatory of Music.[4]
He is an associate professor at his alma mater, Berklee.[1][5]
He frequently plays at Wally's Cafe in Boston.[1][6]
