Stock, 1932Daphoenus ruber is an extinct species of Amphicyonidae ("bear dogs"), a family of terrestrial carnivores belonging to the suborder Caniformia, which inhabited North America during the early Oligocene 29.8—24.8 Mya, existing for approximately 5 million years.

Taxonomy
Daphoenus ruber was named by Stock (1932). Its type locality is Tecuya Canyon, California.[1]
Morphology
A single specimen was measured by Legendre and Roth in 1988 for estimated body mass.

Fossil distribution
Daphoenus ruber fossils were found in Oligocene Arikareean rocks in the Tecuya Canyon Formation of Kern County, California with other mammal species and are dated at ~29.8—24.8 Ma.
