He was born in Prescot district.[1]

Naughton won caps for England while at Widnes in 1949 against Other Nations.[2]
Challenge Cup final appearances
Naughton was absent from Widnes's 0-19 defeat to Warrington in the 1949–50 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on 6 May 1950, due to being on the Great Britain national rugby league team tour to Australia, and New Zealand, though he did not participate in any of the test matches.
Naughton played Loosehead-Prop, i.e. number 8, in Warrington’s 4-4 draw with Halifax in the 1953–54 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on 1 May 1954, and the 18-4 victory in the 1953–54 Challenge Cup final replay at Odsal Stadium, Bradford on 5 May 1954 in front of a 102,569+ crowd.

Naughton is the brother of Great Britain, England, Widnes and Warrington's Centre Albert "Ally" Naughton, and Widnes and Warrington's Second-row John "Johnny" Naughton (born 1920).
