The population was 3,662 at the 2000 census.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 80.6 square miles (209 km2), of which, 79.1 square miles (205 km2) of it is land and 1.5 square miles (3.9 km2) of it (1.84%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,662 people, 1,454 households, and 1,041 families residing in the township. The population density was 46.3 people per square mile (17.9/km²). There were 2,248 housing units at an average density of 28.4/sq mi (11.0/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.39% White, 0.60% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.08% from other races, and 0.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.01% of the population.
There were 1,454 households out of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.7% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% were non-families. 24.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the township the population was spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 24.0% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $34,495, and the median income for a family was $40,000. Males had a median income of $31,303 versus $21,286 for females. The per capita income for the township was $18,449. About 9.4% of families and 11.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.3% of those under age 18 and 8.4% of those age 65 or over.
