Daivajna surnames and Gotras

Daivajna is one of the Hindu Brahmin Community that hails from western coast of India, predominantly from Goa, coastal Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra.

Study of old Portuguese,Marathi,Kannada,Konkani documents found in Goa reveals that Daivajnas did not use any surnames in past,an honorific title Shresthin was used by all instead, which is written as Chatim,Xetim,Xete in Portuguese and Setthi in Konkani and Marathi.During inquisition period they migrated to different places and just to distinguish themselves they started using their village name. Most of the surnames now, amongst them denote their original place of inhabitance in Goa and other places in Maharashtra and Karnataka where they settled after they migrated from Goa.
