Divisional Public School and College is a semi-government school in Sahiwal, Pakistan. The school was established in 1986 in a rented bungalow. It shifted to its present campus in 1988. Lt Col(r) Muhammad Arif Chohan (AEC) was the founding Principal, who laid a very strong foundation in maintaining the Schools high standards in Sahiwal. The current principal is Brig(r) Syed Anwar-ul-Hasan Kirmani.

The institution is spread over an area of about 68 acres. The school has sports grounds including a hockey ground, a football ground, a cricket ground, a basketball court, and vast play fields. It also has a large multipurpose hall for college functions, competitions and events.

Contents

History

Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, then Chief Minister Punjab, inaugurated the present Senior School Block on 15 September 1988. Science Block was added in 1991. Junior School building was constructed in 1994. Girls School was established in 1997. School Mosque was constructed in 1998. D.P.S. was upgraded as Inter College in year 2000.

In Junior School the emphasis is on continuing to provide a firm foundation in reading, writing and mathematical skills. Education at Divisional Public School & College Sahiwal focuses on the "whole person". The School encourages children to develop not only as members of the School, but also of the local, regional and global communities. Visiting speakers, drama groups, educational plays, presentations and concerts extend and broaden each child's curricular knowledge.

Reporting and Parental Contact Pupils' work is scrutinized on a daily basis. Full reports are sent to parents at the end of each term and report cards are after the monthly tests. Quality work and effort is rewarded at all ages throughout the school via merit, certificates and prizes. The DPS & IC system ensures that every child is working to their maximum potential and also highlights any pupil whose work is giving cause for concern. Regular open days are held that give opportunity to the parents to question each teacher privately. Parents are free to contact the Principal or individual teachers at any time. The School can make special arrangements to meet the parents or guardians at any time.

Computing

The school has excellent facilities to allow pupils to develop their IT skills to the limit. The School has invested heavily in computers, networking and Internet access. Divisional Public School & College Sahiwal has its own website (www.dpsswl.com) which encourages pupils to publish their own work on the Internet and communicate and collaborate with other progressive schools around the world.

Religious Training And Instructions Adequate emphasis is given to Islamic Studies. The Islamiat curriculum includes history of Islam, memorization and understanding of prayers and of selected passages from the Holy Quran. The correct recitation of the Holy Quran is emphasized and a Husn-e-Qirat competition is held every year.

  • One Computer Lab with sixteen fully loaded PIII computers hooked up with Windows XP, for Junior section
  • One Computer Lab with 36 P-IV fully loaded computers in each lab linked with Windows XP and server for Senior School
  • One Computer Lab 17 P-IV Fully loaded computers in each lab linked with windows XP and server for Girls School High speed Internet (DSL)
  • An Audio-Visual Aids are available for all the classes in the Senior School, Junior and Girls School to help the students
  • The Senior School has a well-equipped Library. The new Library in Senior School is increasing its collection of books rapidly.

Library The School has a well equipped automated library. It is for the students of VI to VIII, Matric, Intermediate. With a sound book collection of about 20,000 books, latest periodicals, daily news papers and digests.

Playgrounds Divisional Public School & College Sahiwal has the dedicated, experienced, coaching staff coaches young athletes the importance of teamwork, respect for the games and how to develop their athletic abilities on and off the playing field. The routine at “DPS & IC” is no different to the routine being followed in any leading School or College. Great emphasis is laid on discipline. Activities such as PT, Drill and Games take place regularly. The School is spread over 68 acres of land. The buildings are well-spaced out, allowing for spacious lawns and numerous shady, flowering trees, shrubs and flower beds. The boys are encouraged to take interest in their maintenance and to experience the pleasure which can be derived from flowers and trees. The Junior School has its own full size playing fields and lawns equipped with children's playing apparatus. The Senior School is provided with t large cricket-cum-athletic fields, full size hockey and football grounds.

Multi-purpose Hall Divisional Public School & College has its own full equipped Large Multipurpose hall for all indoor activities.
