General Information
The trains were ordered for the Nürnburg to Hof and Bayreuth routes which include a large number of curves. The units worked well from 1992 to 2000 when cracks in the bogies meant they had to be taken out of service. The wheel sets were replaced and they were back in service in 2001.
The class has not been seen as a success and a development of the class was built, the DB Class 611 which also didn't work especially well. The DBAG Class 612 is Germany's successful tilting DMU.
Liveries
The class now all wear the DB Red livery.
Services
The class are used on services around Nürnburg to Hof and Bayreuth.
