It was founded in 1968, and focuses on issues in European law. It is published six times a year and contains articles covering:

- Developments in market deregulation
- The single European currency
- The EU/WTO relationship
- Telecommunications
- E-commerce
- Community Law in National Courts
The journal also contains annotations of cases from the European Court of Justice, as well as relevant cases from national courts, the World Trade Organization, the European Court of Human Rights, and other tribunals addressing Community law, as well as book reviews from the field.
The editors are Alan Dashwood (University of Cambridge), Jacqueline Dutheil de la Rochère (University of Paris II), Jean-Paul Jacqué (Council of the European Union), Pieter Jan Kuijper (European Commission), Wulf-Henning Roth (University of Bonn), Piet Jan Slot (Leiden University), and Jan A. Winter (Vrije Universiteit).
