It is task organized combat service support element capable of providing a wide range of combat related support to all elements of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. The battalion is part of the 3rd Marine Logistics Group and is based out of Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan.

Mission
Provide ground combat service support to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to conduct special operations as directed and to act as the nucleus for expanded combat service support operations.
History
The staff nucleus was activated in May 1992. The augmentation of personnel and sourcing of equipment from the 3d Force Service Support Group was completed by August of that same year. CLB-31 became operationally committed to the commanding officer of the 31st MEU on 1 November 1992, and have participated in every operation with the MEU since.
