College of Business & Technology (a.k.a. CBT College) is a higher education & career education institution based in the city of Miami, Florida. CBT operates three additional campuses in the cities of Miami[3], Hialeah, and Cutler Bay Florida.[4][5][6][7]

The CBT College is nationally accredited and certified by the United States Department of Education, and the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.

About the College

History

College of Business and Technology, Miami, Florida

College of Business and Technology (CBT College) was founded in 1988 by Fernando Llerena and Gladys Llerena.

In 2002 CBT College began offering associate degree programs and changed accreditation to ACICS[2] (Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools) in order to pursue higher education degrees. CBT is a for-profit, private, two-year Career College that offers Associate degree programs in business, health care, technology and construction swell as the previous non-degree-programs.

In 2005, CBT College opened two branch campuses in Miami and Hialeah and in the year 2008, CBT opened a branch in Cutler Bay. In 2010, CBT will open a West Kendall branch.

The CBT College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS)[2] to award diploma and academic associate degrees. CBT is also licensed by the Commission for Independent Education (CIE)[2] and certified by the United States Department of Education. In addition, CBT is under the regulation of the Florida’s Statewide Numbering System that facilitates the transfer of courses between participating institutions.

CBT College was recognized in 2000, by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce as one of the Top 100 Hispanic Businesses in Florida.[8]

CBT College offers a number of Academic, Technical, and Vocational programs. Some of these courses entitle the individual to the certifications applicable for the field. Computer related programs include certifications issued by Microsoft Corporation.

Certifications

CBT College is an accredited authorized Educational Testing Center (ETC). ETC provides candidates the convenience of testing for the following certifications: A+, NETWORK+, MOS, MCP, CIW, and CCNA.

In addition, CBT College is a Testing Center approved by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) and National Healthcareer Association (NHA) for the National Board examinations, required for many medical and health careers.

Student Services

CBT College assist all students in providing real-world professional training services to facilitate the career placement process. Assistance is providing both during their studies and even after graduation. The college maintains a computerized list of graduate students which helps the placement department seek positions in future employing companies. While the college does not guarantee placement, the college will make every effort to help the graduate find a position in the Metro Dade/Broward vicinity. The placement department at CBT assists the student with scheduling interviews and faxing resumes to companies who seek employees or internships. The college has workshops to inform students on what to expect after graduation.

  • ““Fernando Llerena”” Scholarship, Awarded to students enrolled in ESL program.
  • Reach Out America Scholarship Awarded to students enrolled in ESL Program. who have been in the US less than 5 years.
  • Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Rewarded to high school graduates for high academic achievement.
  • Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship, Awarded to outstanding high school students who show promise of continued academic achievement, nominated by their high school principal
  • Scholarships for Children of Deceased or Disabled Veterans, Awarded to dependent children of deceased or disabled Florida veterans and/or service men.
  • Florida Student Assistance Grant Program
  • Jose Marti Scholarship Challenge Grant, Awarded to students of the Hispanic origin who will attend Florida public or private institutions.
  • Pell Grant, Awarded to help undergraduates who have not yet received Bachelor’s degree pay for their post-secondary education.
  • Academy Competitiveness Grant (ACG). Intended to encourage rigorous academy study in high school and enrollment in college majors in the physical, life, and computer sciences; engineering; technology; mathematics; and certain foreign languages.
  • Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, (SEOG), Awarded to undergraduates who show the greatest financial need (priority given to Pell Grant recipients). This grant does not have to be paid back.
  • Ford Direct Loan, Available to students through participating post-secondary schools.

Housing

College of Business and Technology (CBT College) assists students in finding suitable living places. This is especially true for out-of-state students who are new to the South Florida area. CBT does not provide housing.

Continuing Education Support

CBT College offers its graduate students the benefit of attending classes anytime they wish to update their skills at no cost. This is particularly predominant in programs featuring technologies that change constantly. Students enrolled in a web related course are able to create their online portfolio and do file transfers to their own web address as long as they are an active student at CBT.
