The team currently plays in Primera C Metropolitana, which is the regionalised fourth tier of the Argentine Football Association.
The club was founded in 1921 with the name Club Social y Deportivo Defensores de Cambaceres, and the kit color (red) was chosen as a homage to Independiente, one of the most important teams of Argentina.
Defensores has never played at the national level in Argentine football, but it only affiliated to the AFA in 1957. The squad has been promoted to the regional 3rd division (Primera B Metropolitana) several times, but has never made it further up the pyramid.
