They currently play in the regionalised fourth tier of Argentinian football, known as "Primera C Metropolitana".The club was founded in 1910 with the name The name Club Union de Excursionistas, which was changed to Club Atletico excursionistas in 1920. The name Excursionistas translates roughly as "The Voyagers" and is akin to the name "Wanderers" sported by many clubs.
In 2006 it was rumoured that
