He was born on June 11, 1886 in Burton, Georgia. Claud attended college at the University of Georgia. He played five seasons in his career, for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1910-1912, the New York Yankees in 1913, and the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs in 1914. He had 79 career hits in 326 at bats.
Derrick died on July 15, 1974 in Clayton, Georgia.
