Murphy began his professional baseball career with the Baltimore Orioles of the Eastern League, later named the

August 26 ,1912 . Three years later, the Chicago White Sox purchased his contract. That year, the White Sox made the World Series. It was an infamous series and as a result of the Black Sox Scandal, eight members of the White Sox were banned from Major League Baseball.
