Christopher 'Chris' Smith is an Australian talkback radio broadcaster. He presents the 2GB Sydney and MTR 1377 Melbourne afternoon shows. His views are generally conservative and centre-right. Smith began his career on talkback radio in regional New South Wales. Prior to joining 2GB he was a reporter for A Current Affair (Australia) and Nine Morning News. He also worked as a programme director for a bilingual radio station in China. Smith is also an author, having published a number of fiction and non-fiction works.
In December 2010 he was involved in an incident at a staff Christmas party where he allegedly 'groped' female staff. Smith apologised, took leave, sought treatment and admitted to suffering from bipolar disorder and alcoholism. Smith's family moved out before later returning.
In March 2011 Smith widely promoted an anti-carbon tax rally in Canberra held in protest of the Gillard Government's broken promise on the carbon tax. Smith held a live broadcast from outside Parliament House. For his involment he was severely criticised by Media Watch and Jonathan Holmes who claimed it was improper for a radio host to be involved in political rallies.
