Early career
Valladolid graduated from the Los Angeles Culinary Institute as a "Certified cook"[3] and then moved to Paris, France where she graduated as a classically trained pastry chef at the Ritz Escoffier Cooking School.[4][5] She then became employed as an editor and recipe stylist for the Bon Appétit magazine. Pursuant to her career as a chef, she became part of the cast of the 2005 series The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, in which she came in fourth place.[6]
Career
On top of teaching cooking techniques to her 40 students at her Tijuana, Mexico home, Valladolid also runs a catering company.[7] Her first cooking show was "Relatos con Sabor" on Discovery en Español which airs in the U.S. and Latin America. In the series, she shows viewers how local Hispanic homes preserve and revive traditional recipes.[8]
Fresh Mexico: 100 Simple Recipes for True Mexican Flavor debuted in August 2009[9] and has since received positive reviews.[10] Her book and the subsequent "Mexican Made Easy" show was designed to show the world there’s no "yellow cheese" in real Mexican cooking and that her Mexican culinary style can be done with "fresh flavor that fits all."[11] The show's first season debuted in January 2010 and films in San Diego where Valladolid currently resides.
She has also appeared in Food Network's Throwdown! with Bobby Flay as a judge for a fish taco-themed competition.
Personal life
She has a son named Fausto, whom she jokingly refers to as "the rat."[12] He has appeared on her television show.[13]
