Chastity Brown (musician)
Chastity Brown (born June 1, 1982) is a Knoxville, Tennessee-raised American musician based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has released three full-length albums that "straddle multiple genres."[1]
Biography
In 2007, Chastity released her debut album “Do the Best You Can.” In 2009, she released her sophomoric album, “Sankofa,” both received with critical acclaim.[2]
2010 saw the release of “High Noon Teeth,” with Chastity’s bandmates, Michael X. (percussion), Adam Wozniak (of Tarlton, upright bass) and Nikki Schultz (backing vocals). Their groove-based soul is a mix of gritty gospel, rhythm and blues, and strong vocal pairings. Her style has been called a "soul-jazz" combo.[3]
On June 6, 2010, Brown's "By the Train Tacks" was 89.3 The Current's "Song of the Day.[4]
Jim Walsh of the Minneapolis Star Tribune has commented, "...for those who appreciate songwriter-fueled jazz and a sense of organic greatness in the making, she is nothing short of a massage therapist for the ears and soul." [5]
Brown is a contributing artist to Think Out Loud, a Twin Cities effort to end homelessness through music.[6]
