"Custody"List of Law & Order episodes (season 6) "Charm City" is an episode of the NBC drama Law & Order's sixth season, named for the nickname for the city of Baltimore. The episode is the first part of a two-part crossover with fellow NBC police drama Homicide: Life on the Street. The Homicide episode "For God and Country" is the second part. Both episodes were co-written by Law & Order producer Michael S. Chernuchin and Homicide story editor Jorge Zamacona. In the episode Detectives Briscoe and Curtis investigate a poison gas attack in a Harlem subway.
The bombing is similar to one orchestrated at a church in Baltimore five years earlier, prompting Detectives Frank Pembleton and Tim Bayliss to come to New York to try to assist in the investigation. The episode's legal issue involves rights to counsel: Maryland laws differ from New York's and whether the suspect asks for a lawyer is up for debate but happens just prior to his confession. In the final scene, the suspect being interrogated hints that the police do not yet understand the scope of what has happened, setting up the second half of the story.
