Character

When Charlie arrived he caused quite a stir with his comments regarding sex and the female staff at the Mill Health Centre. He got on the nerves of most of the female staff, especially the receptionist Ruth Pearce. Ruth felt she could handle the few sexist remarks from Charlie but they got too much to handle. Bradfield was dismissed from the Mill and reported to the General Medical Council following a suspected sexual assault on centre manager Julia Parsons while she was ill at home with undiagnosed symptoms Lyme Disease.

Storylines

Sexual Remarks

Soon after his arrival Charlie made many sexual Innuendoes to female staff and even Karen's daughter Imogen. For Ruth the comments became unbearable and she confided in her friends, Karen, Cherry & Michelle to help her. They devised a plan and eventually caught Charlie out by locking him to a chair in the Treatment room. Michelle told Julia what Charlie had been doing, she even told her that he told Heston that he should give Julia a go. Charlie has stopped with his comments and has a talking to from Julia. Julia has also told Ruth she should file a complaint about Charlie, she refused. When Charlie goes out to dinner with colleague Heston Carter in an Indian restaurant, Charlie tries to help the restaurant's manager's wife as he sees burns on her arm. This made the woman uncomfortable and her husband accuses Charlie of molesting her. Charlie initially got kicked out, but tries to defend himself once and for all by commenting about his rights, but the woman's husband tells everyone in the restaurant about Charlie's constant negative remarks about his life and told him he was disrespectful not only to himself but to other people also. After everyone refused to listen to him, he eventually got kicked out again.

Homophobia

Bradfield subjected gay colleague Dr Simon Bond to a campaign of homophobic abuse once he learned of the latter's sexuality and affair with married paramedic Will Duncan. Most of Bond's colleagues chose to turn a blind eye to Bradfield's low level verbal abuse until the latter apparently raped practice manage Julia Parsons while she was ill at home with symptoms of confusion due to Lyme disease. Just prior to Bradfield's dismissal for this misconduct, Bond confronted him over the homophobia but the issue was resolved due to Bradfield's sacking from the Mill over the sexual assault.

Charlie's Past

Two years earlier Charlie had molested a woman named Linda Stow when he worked at a different surgery. When Linda moved to Letherbridge (and started working at the Mill health centre) she and work colleague Anthony attempted to get revenge on Charlie. However Charlie informed Anthony that he knew about a fraud Anthony had committed two years earlier, and that he would tell Julia about it if Anthony revealed that Charlie was a rapist. later he assaulted Linda at the mill and told her to leave. Reluctantly, both Linda and Anthony flee from Letherbridge.
