PostonResidence Hornbeck, Vernon Parish, Louisiana, USA Occupation Railroad employee Poston served one term corresponding with the second administration of Governeor Jimmie Davis and was succeeded his son, Bryan A. Poston, who held the state Senate seat for twenty-eight years, encompassing four governors. Charles M. Poston, Sr. (February 14, 1898—November 1968),[1] was a railroad employee from Hornbeck, a small town in Vernon Parish in western Louisiana, who served a single term from 1960 to 1964 as a Democratic state senator from what is now District 30 (Beauregard, Calcasieu, Sabine, and Vernon parishes). At the time, Poston’s constituency did not include the current precincts in Calcasieu Parish.[2]
Poston did not seek a second term in 1964; instead his son, Bryan A. Poston, a businessman also from Hornbeck, was elected to succeed him. Bryan Poston held the Senate seat from 1964 to 1992, when he retired and was replaced by James David Cain of Dry Creek in Beauregard Parish.[2]
Poston's Senate colleagues included Jamar Adcock of Ouachita Parish, Cecil R. Blair of Rapides Parish, Jackson B. Davis of Caddo Parish, Sylvan Friedman of Natchitoches Parish, J. C. Gilbert of Catahoula Parish, Speedy O. Long of La Salle Parish, and Harold Montgomery of Bossier and Webster parishes.
Poston was married to Marjorie M. Poston (1899–1995), who was also a railroad employee. In addition to son Bryan, the couple had two other sons, Charles M. Poston, Jr., and Morris O. Poston of Leesville, the seat of Vernon Parish.[3]
