Business of Design Week

Business of Design Week

Business of Design Week (BODW) is an annual week-long event organised every December by the Hong Kong Design Centre, an organisation that aims to promote Hong Kong as a centre of design excellence in Asia.

Since its launch in 2002, thousands of attendees and hundreds of designers have participated in BODW.

BODW’s stated mission is to encourage organisations to understand the power of design in business by inviting prestigious designers, business leaders and educators to share their opinions in forums. Zaha Hadid, Tom Dixon (industrial designer), Jimmy Choo, John Sorrell, Karim Rashid, Marc Newson, and Vivienne Tam have spoken at BODW.

Each year, BODW partners with a different nation showcasing that country’s designers and talent and its different views on complex and relevant issues. The partner countries for 2006 and 2007 were the UK and Italy.

BODW includes forums, exhibitions and award presentations. The highlights of the week-long event are the BODW Forum and HKDC Award Gala Dinner. At BODW Forum famous designers give presentations and share opinions. At the HKDC Award Gala Dinner, Awards include the Design for Asia Awards, the World’s Outstanding Chinese Designer Award, the Design Leadership Award, the Design for Asia Award, and the Hong Kong Young Design Talent Awards.
