CoStar Group, Inc. (NASDAQCSGP) is one of the largest[citation needed] providers of information/marketing services to commercial real estate professionals in the United States as well as the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1987 by Andrew C. Florance. [2] CoStar's suite of services offers customers access via the Internet to a database of commercial real estate information throughout the U.S. as well as in the United Kingdom and France. Headquartered in Washington, DC, CoStar has approximately 1,300 people working for the company worldwide, including the largest professional research organization in the industry.[citation needed]

CoStar's main United States research operations are in it's Washington, D.C. headquarters and operates most West Coast Research out of San Diego, California. Additional research operations exist in Atlanta, Georgia in addition to well over 30 sales offices spread over the nation's largest metropolitan areas. Furthermore, CoStar subsidiaries Property and Portfolio Research as well as Resolve Technologies operate primarily out of Boston, Massachusetts with additional operations in Hong Kong and London.

In the United Kingdom, CoStar's research operations are based in Glasgow, Scotland. French Research Operations operate under CoStar subsidiary Grecam out of Paris. Canadian research is expected to come online in early 2012 for Toronto and the Golden Horseshoe.

In April 2011 CoStar Group Inc agreed to buy LoopNet Inc for about $860 million in cash and stock, to double its paid subscriber base. LoopNet is a commercial real estate information services provider and operates LoopNet.com, which is a commercial real estate listing service with over 4 million members.
