- Willersley Castle
Willersley Castle is a late 18th century country mansion situated above the River Derwent at
Cromford ,Derbyshire which is now operated as an hotel. It is aGrade II* listed building .The house was built for the occupation of Sir Richard Arkwright the great industrialist of Rock House, Crompton and Crompton Mill , (one of the
Derwent Valley Mills ), by architect William Thomas. Arkwright died in 1792 before completion.The
castellated house is three storeys with a seven bay frontage, the central bay flanked by full height round towers. It was occupied by the Arkwright family until 1922. The estate was sold in 1928 and opened as a Methodist Guild holiday centre. DuringWorld War II 1940-46 it was a maternity hospital. It is now a Christian Guild hotel.References
