South Hills High School (often known by its abbreviation, SHHS) is a public coeducational high school located in the hills in the eastern part of West Covina, California (although there is a common misconception that it is in Covina), east of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley. South Hills High School is part of the Covina-Valley Unified School District.

Demographics

During the 2007-2008 school year, there were 2,113 students. The school has grown tremendously in the last decade and has had problems with crowding in recent years. By comparison, there were 1,306 students during the 1993-1994 school year. Academics

The school's academic reputation has attracted many transfer students. As of the 2006-2007 school year, there are three AP courses available at South Hills that are not available at other schools in the Covina-Valley Unified School District: AP French, AP Computer Science, and AP World History.

SHHS does not weigh its GPAs for honors and AP courses. Anyone with a 4.0 GPA graduates as a valedictorian. There were six valedictorians in the class of 2006, and there were 11 valedictorian candidates in the class of 2007.

College Destinations

South Hills High graduates go on to a large variety of colleges and universities throughout California and the nation. According to state data (need citation), approximately 40% of graduates go to a California Community College (mainly Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) and Citrus College). Approximately 12% each go to a California State University or a University of California campus.

Athletics

South Hills competes in the CIF Southern Section: San Antonio League with Nogales High School, Rowland High School, Walnut High School, and West Covina High School.

The arch-rivals are the West Covina Bulldogs. Since the two schools are located on the same street, the West Covina Vs. South Hills High game is also known as the "Kings of Cameron Game".
