Mid-Antrim District Council
- Mid-Antrim District Council
Mid-Antrim District Council is a proposed Northern Irish local government district. Under the latest decision by the Review of Public Administration the district would be created by merging Ballymena Borough Council, Larne Borough Council, and Carrickfergus Borough Council.
The new district will be wholly located in County Antrim, and stretch from the River Bann in the west to the Antrim Coast, taking in the southern part of the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as the major towns of Ballymena and Carrickfergus, and the important port of Larne. The district would have an electorate of 89,832.[cite web | title=Provisional Recommendations of the Local Government Boundaries Commissioner for Northern Ireland| work=LGBC | url=http://www.lgbc-ni.org/index/provisional_recommendations.htm | accessdate=2008-09-26] The name of the new District was announced on September 17. The first election for the new district was due to take place in May 2009, but on April 25, 2008, Shaun Woodward, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland announced that the scheduled 2009 district council elections were to be postponed until 2011.
