Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (Finnish: Seinäjoen ammattikorkeakoulu) is a local municipality-owned Finnish institution of higher education based in six municipalities of Southern Ostrobothnia. Despite its name, SeAMK is not a traditional university but a vocational college. [Like in German-speaking countries, Finnish educational system is divided between vocational and academic paths, thus ammattikorkeakoulu is similar to the German fachhochschule]

2008 shooting

On 23 September, 2008, a 22-year-old culinary arts student opened fire on campus of School of Hospitality, killing ten people; comprising eight female students, one male student, and one male instructor, before killing himself.
