playmaker , Álvarez started his career with Deportivo de La Coruña B, showing early promise and playing for Spain's U17 at the 1996Meridian Cup (winning the tournament) and the 1998UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship (third place). Subsequently, he joinedReal Madrid but, despite very good performances for the B and C outfits, could never break into the first team.Following a successful season for Real Madrid B, Álvarez was loaned to
