Career
C. Ronson
Ronson always had an interest in fashion, however, she began designing after friends asked her to create pieces for them.[1] Ronson graduated from NYU after majoring in Studio Art and proceeded to intern at Harper's Bazaar, Rolling Stone, and with designer Cynthia Rowley.[2] In 2001, Ronson began garnering attention from popular fashion magazines such as Vogue.[1] By May 2002, Ronson had opened her flagship store on Elizabeth Street in New York.[1] The Charlotte Ronson brand is partnered with Japanese apparel company, The Wall.
Charlotte Ronson
The original line of C. Ronson is now an offshoot of the larger Charlotte Ronson brand and the current New York store is now located on Mulberry Street.[1] In 2008, Ronson designed a collaboration called "Play" by C. Ronson for Urban Outfitters, named after a mixtape her sister, Samantha Ronson, made for her.[3] She has also designed a line for JCPenney called I 'Heart' Ronson. Spring 2009 was Ronson's first showing in Bryant Park, the main tents, for New York Fashion Week.[4] Charlotte Ronson has been worn by celebrities such as Mischa Barton, Gisele Bündchen, Andy Dick, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, Ellen Pompeo, Nicole Richie, Winona Ryder, Jessica Simpson, and Gwen Stefani.[1] About her muses, Ronson says "My sisters Samantha and Annabelle are always inspiring to my collection. I think there are pieces in the collection that they both look great in."[3]
Personal life
Ronson was born into a wealthy family as the daughter of writer and socialite Ann Dexter-Jones and real estate mogul Laurence Ronson.[4] She has said that her mother was strict when she was growing up and would not let her attend concerts.[5] Ronson is related to politicians Malcolm Rifkind and Leon Brittan, and is the niece of business tycoon Gerald Ronson. Her parents are of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, with ancestors from Russia, Lithuania and Austria.[6][7] Ronson's family name was originally Aaronson but her grandfather Henry Ronson changed it to Ronson.[8] She has two siblings, twin sister Samantha Ronson, who is a DJ, and older brother Mark Ronson, who is a music producer, singer/songwriter, and DJ as well.[9] Ann Dexter-Jones and Laurence Ronson later divorced, and after Ann re-married to Mick Jones of Foreigner, the family relocated to New York. Jones and Dexter-Jones had two more children, Ronson's half-siblings, Alexander and Annabelle Dexter-Jones. Ronson also has three half-siblings: David, Henrietta and Joshua Ronson through her father's remarriage to Michelle Human.
