S-Nitrosothiol

A nitrosothiol is a an organic compound or functional group containing a nitroso group attached to a thiol. ["Nitroso" IUPAC nomenclature [http://www.acdlabs.com/iupac/nomenclature/79/r79_589.htm] ] The decomposition of S-nitrosothiols yields nitric oxide nitric oxide and a disulfide.

ynthesis

Nitrosothiols can be synthesized from thiols using NaNO₂/H+, N₂O₃, N₂O₄, HNO, NOCl, RONO, NO₂ , HNO₂, bovine aortic endothelial cells, among others. NaNO₂/H+ and tBuONO are commonly used.
