County Route 28 is a short county highway located in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

Route description

County Route 28 begins at the Mercer County line and extends easterly through Upper Freehold Township along Old York Road into Allentown, where it is known as South Main Street. History

County Route 28 was taken over as a county highway on July 5, 1933. This was accomplished by two resolutions, one for each municipality. [Resolutions (2), Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Jul. 5, 1933] In the 1937 renumbering of Monmouth County highways, 28 was the highest-number designated. At that time, County Route 28 also included a 3.03 mile portion of Old York Road north of Allentown, as well as Disbrow Hill Road on the boundary of Millstone and Monroe Townships. By 1939, Disbrow Hill Road had been redesignated as County Route 28A; Old York Road north of Allentown became a part of County Route 539 in 1952.
