Dana George Mead (born 1936) is an American businessman and corporate director. Mead is currently chairman of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's board of trustees, and serves on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Pfizer.[1]
Mead graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1957 and received his Ph.D in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army line armor and airborne units in West Germany and Vietnam between 1957 and 1978. Mead was a White House Fellow for 1970-71, a member of the Domestic Council from 1972–74, and returned to West Point as a professor in 1974-78.[2]
Mead worked at International Paper between 1978-1992 rising to become a boardmember.[2] Mead was chairman and CEO of Tenneco between 1994 and 1999 and was a board member for Cummins (1993–1996), Zurich Financial Services (1997–2006),[3] and Pactiv (1998–2000). He was a chairman for the Business Roundtable (1998–1999) and the National Association of Manufacturers (1994–1995). Mead co-authored High Standards, Hard Choices: A CEO's Journey of Courage, Risk and Change published in 2000.[4]
