About the village
Situated at the elevation of 950m on the western slopes of the second tallest mountain in Greece, Smolikas, and at the bottom of Kleftis (Κλέφτης) hill. Its older name was Botsifari (Μποτσιφάρι). Konitsa is about 15 km northeast on a paved road. Its neighboring villages are Molista (Messaria) and Gannadio. It has a view of Grammos and the Albanian mountains. The village residents were builders along with revolutionary leaders as far away as Wallachia in modern Romania and Egypt.[citation needed] With agricultural needs, it employs mainly women.[citation needed]
History
After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt. Once a village of around 200 to 300, emigration picked up during the 1980s, declining by half between 1991 and 2001. Agrambela became connected with asphalt during the 1980s. Electricity, radio, and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late 20th century, and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. In the late 1990s, the ex-community (now a municipal district) joined to become the newly formed municipality of Konitsa.
Natural environment
The village has an abundant number of forests and groves. The rivers and streams are potable.[citation needed] It also has a few churches. Lower than the village is the Sarantaporos, which empties into the Aoos a few kilometers west before entering Albania. The trail which connects Konitsa to Eptahori and Pentalofos (Kozani) is one of the best mountain trails in Greece. The trail is a part of the Trail 3 and the European Trail E3.
