(Dynamic Digital Displays), an American company based in New Jersey, engineers and manufactures LED signs, Digital Displays, Marquee Systems, Tickers, and related products. The employee owned company was founded in 2006 by partners George Pappas, Meric Adriansen and Jason Barak.
History
Though the company is still fairly young, in their first two years they have landed some high profile contracts in the LED sign business and installed several signs in Times Square. Notable signs designed and manufactured by the company, in and around Times Square, include the ABC Studios Supersign, both M&Ms World signs, the Army Recruiting Station sign, Ripley's Believe It Or Not, and the soon to be completed Walgreens sign on the One Times Square building. D3 LED went international and stepped into the sports scoreboard / Video Wall scene at the same time with the launch of their Baseball Stadium and Basketball Arena displays for Cibao in Santiago, Dominican Republic in '07 and early '08.
Major Projects
M&Ms World - Times Square - NY, NY - Dec 06
One of the major projects to come from D3's freshman year in '06 was the installation of two large spectaculars at the M&Ms World building in Times Square. The display over the Broadway entrance measures just over 1,000 square feet (93 m2) and consists of 650,000 pixels, while the display over the 7th street entrance measures over 2,600 square feet (240 m2) and consists of 1.7 million pixels.
Caesar's - Atlantic City Boardwalk, NJ - Apr 07
Above The Pier Shops in Atlantic City hangs the LED sign that D3 engineered for Caesar's, measuring in at almost 3,000 square feet (280 m2) and 1.9 million pixels.
ABC Supersign - Times Square - NY, NY - Sep 07
D3 retrofitted the custom 3,200-square-foot (300 m2) ABC Supersign in Times Square. The redesign included over 3,500 10mm modules, consisting of over 2.84 million pixels, and boosted the resolution of the sign by a factor of 25. Reaching 1.3 million people daily, the sign is expected to bring in over 2.5 billion dollars in revenue for ABC by the end of 2010.[1]
FOX News - 6th and 48th - NY, NY - Oct 07
Nearly 500,000 pixels make up this LED news zipper that wraps around the northeast corner of this office building at 6th and 48th which houses the FOX News studio. The building anchors the southwest corner of Rockefeller Center. While used primarily to stream headlines of FOX's top news stories, it is capable of displaying images and video as well in full color.
Cibao Stadium - Santiago, DR - Oct 07
Cibao Stadium (or Estadio Cibao) in Santiago, Dominican Republic is the home to this 775,000 pixel Video Wall /scoreboard and it is also the home to baseball games for the Águilas Cibaeñas.
Army Recruiting Station - Times Square - NY, NY - Dec 07
The United States Army commissioned D3 LED to build the LED sign for the US Armed Forces Recruiting Station in the center of Times Square. The recruiting station was bombed on March 6, 2008 and there were no injuries to bystanders or the display itself.
Walgreens - One Times Square - NY, NY - Fall 08
With over 12 million LEDs and covering 17,000 square feet (1,600 m2), the Walgreens sign on the One Times Square building in NY will be the largest LED sign in all of Times Square once it is completed... surpassing the current title holder (Nasdaq sign which comes in at 11,000 square feet). The sign will consist of seventy-seven 5,000 pound cabinets and will house 16.6 miles (26.7 km) of data and power cables.[2]
Partnerships
In January 2008, D3 joined with Jonesboro, AR based Action Graphix to create the Digital Billboard partnership AGX Digital. The joint venture will manufacture LED billboards for the digital out of home market.[3]
Accolades and Awards
- D3 LED was recognized by The Digital Signage Group in their 4th annual Digi Awards in 2008 by receiving their Public Venue Application, Excellence in Technology Award for the ABC Times Square Studio sign.[4]
- D3's M&Ms world signs made the cover story featured article in the May/June '07 edition of Archi.Tech Magazine. The piece was called "Sweet Escape".[5]
- D3's ABC Supersign also made the cover story featured article in the February '08 edition of Signs Of The Times Magazine. The Piece was called "Extreme Makeover: LED Edition... ABC's LED SuperScreen".
