GCPS is the largest school system in Georgia,[3] with 123 schools and an estimated enrollment of 161,000 students for the 2010-2011 year. GCPS is estimated to be the 14th largest school district in the U.S.[4] The district has its headquarters in an unincorporated area.[5] GCPS was the winner of the 2010 Broad Prize for Urban Education.[6][7]

The district's schools are grouped into 15 geographical attendance zones referred to as "clusters". Each cluster includes one high school and is named for the high school.[3]
