20th century

* 1903 – Construction begins on the Baghdad Railway with the 200 km segment between Konya and Bulgurlu in the Ottoman Empire (present day Turkey).
* 1955 – Canadian National Railway opens the branch between Hillsport and Manitouwadge, Ontario.
* 1957 – The Musquodoboit Railway ends steam locomotive operations with a round trip between Dartmouth and Upper Upper Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, behind CN number 3409.
* 1996 – Ron Burns becomes president of Union Pacific Railroad.
