- IoC-View monitor
Monitoring the level of
consciousness during generalanaesthesia can reduce the risk of awareness and may avoid excessively deepanaesthesia . [ Lennmarken C, Sandin R. Neuromonitoring for awareness during surgery.Lancet 2004;363(9423):1747-8.] [ Kent CD, Domino KB. Awareness: practice, standards, and the law. Introduction to cognitive activity during anaesthesia.Best Pract Res Clin Anaesthesiol. 2007;21:291-5.] Reduction in anaesthetics consumption and faster recovery has also been reported. The IoC - View
monitor is a medicaldevice designed by the company [http://www.morpheus-medical.com Morpheus Medical] . The IoC - View has been engineered with cutting edgetechnology to provide the "Index of Consciousness (IoC)" to the anaesthesia professional. The "Index of Consciousness" is designed to measure the level of consciousness during general anaesthesia where the correct balancing of anaesthetics or fast recovery is a concern. [ ,J Galan,Assessment of the Index of Consciousness (IoC) during cardiac anaesthesia.EACTA 2008. ]
The IoC - View features a pocket-size for convenient portability and records the electroencephalogram (EEG) with 3 surface electrodes attached to the forehead of the patient. Also this monitor of deep anaesthesia uses a continuous processed EEG parameter that correlates to the patient's level of hypnosis where decreasing "IoC" values correspond to gradually loss of consciousness and a deepening of the level of anaesthesia, where 40-60 indicates adequate anaesthesia. [ M. Revuelta, Baseline stability of the Index of Consciousness (IoC). A comparison with the Bispectral Index (BIS) and the Cerebral State Index (CSI), ESA 2008 3AP7-4. ]
The "IoC" is a scale ranging from 0-99, where 99 indicates an awake patient and 0 indicates a flat EEG.
The IoC - View uses the latest
technology in electronics design andsoftware ensuring safe and reliable performance. IoC - View is the first depth of anaesthesiamonitor to useBluetooth providing a truewireless solution to the anesthesiologist. All the data obtained with the IoC - View monitor could be sent toPDA ’s, multiparameter monitors orPC ’s where could be monitored in real time and recorded at the same time. Methods
The principal parameter of the IoC - View is the
symbolic dynamics method. Thesymbolic dynamics detect the complexity of theEEG which makes it a correlate to the depth of anaesthesia. The IoC - View also integrates the beta ratio during the superficial anaesthesia and the amount of suppression of theEEG (ESR, EEG Suppression Rate) in deep anaesthesia.
