Jarboesville was
Lexington Park, Maryland before thePatuxent Naval Air Station was built on1 April 1943 . The town was then renamed Lexington Park in honor of USS Lexington after she was sunk at theBattle of the Coral Sea . When the town was first founded it was named Jarboesville because of the Jarboe family that came to Maryland onDove in the 1600s. They landed inSt. Mary's City . The family then purchased land north near the Patuxent River. Jarboesville was created after the family sold part of their land.
