He attended Eggbuckland Community College up until 1998, where he attended City College Plymouth, studying a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts. He then went on to attend Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and graduated in 2005. He is known for his portrayal of Graeme Proctor in Coronation Street.
Gazey attended Our Ladys R.C High school in Royton, in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, Greater Manchester in 1993. His family still live in the surrounding area. He attended college with actor James Sutton.
Gazey has appeared on the TV panel show Loose Women, the 1000th episode of The Jeremy Kyle Show playing his Coronation Street character alongside fellow cast members, and Celebrity Juice. He has also appeared in Hollyoaks. In 2009,he won an award for Best Newcomer at the 9th Inside Soap Awards.
On 20 January 2010, he won an award for Best Newcomer at the 15th National Television Awards. He won the best comedy performance award at the British Soap Awards 2010.
On 6 January 2011, Gazey announced he would be leaving Coronation Street as he missed theatre life and he would like to try new characters and new experiences. He said his decision to leave was extremely tough and he will miss the cast and crew very much. Gazey filmed his final scenes in May 2011 but Graeme remained on-screen until June. Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson said that Gazey created a brilliant and memorable character and is sad to see him go but hopes that it's not the last of Graeme in the soap.[citation needed]
