Lady Elizabeth Walpole

Lady Elizabeth "Nancy" Walpole (16 October 1682 - 01 July 1736) was born into the prominent Walpole family.

Birth

Elizabeth was born 16 October 1682 the nineteenth child of Robert Walpole and Mary Burwell at Houghton Hall. She is known as the sister of the famous Sir Robert Walpole first Prime Minister of England.

Court Life and Later Life

Elizabeth was introduced to Court by her brother Robert and became one of four of the Maids of Honor of Queen Caroline consort of George II. In the early 1700s Elizabeth met James Johnston and fell in love with him. Without the consent of her noble family Elizabeth eloped with James and the sailed to America, where they later settled in Pennsylvania.

Death

On 01 July 1736 at the age of 53 Elizabeth gave birth to a daughter named Sarah. Elizabeth died from the complications of the birth that day.
