Konkani language family

The Konkani language family is a group of languages that are spoken in the Konkan region of India. These languages have either common origins in the Konkan region or are spoken in the region.

Konkani languages form part of the Southern Zone of the Indo-Aryan language family.

The Konkani language family consists of the following languages:

Konkani macrolanguage

Since the name Konkani applies to two different languages(Konkani dialect as well as Konkani language); SIL classifies them under a single macrolanguage:Konkani macrolanguage. [http://www.sil.org/iso639-3/documentation.asp?id=kok]

Official Status

With the exception of Goan Konkani, the other languages of the family have no official status. Most are considered to be a dialect of other lager local languages. Goan Konkani is the official language of the Indian state of Goa and is also one of India's national languages.
