Jose Alfredo Bozzano Baglietto was a Paraguayan captain, designer of the famous dockyards Paraguay and Humaitá that were used during the Chaco War. Since the Dockyards War and Navy made the feat to equip the army of weapons, projectiles, trucks and other war supplies and logistics.

Life

Jose Alfredo Bozzano Baglietto was born on December 7 1895 in San Jeronimo, "and fifty metres from the Dockyards, which at that time was located there, this date is contained in official documents and was corroborated by his grandson, engineer Luis Lamas Bozzano, curiously because he gave another date (1899) "by removing a few years; pure coquetry", as stated at times his wife, Mrs. Virginia Cardozo of Bozzano , Which in turn was the daughter of Ramon Indalecio Cardozo and brother Efraím Cardozo. His parents were the owner shipping Genoese Jose Bozzano and the Argentine citizen Benedict Baglietto.

Studies

Borzzano studied at the Colegio Nacional de la Capital, made the career of Law until the third year and then joined the Navy as a naval cadet Commission on 21 September 1917. He came to the table cash, with the same degree, by decree of 15,716 February 8 1923. Since April 1918 served in the War and Navy dockyards.

In May 1920, the Government of Joseph P. Montero (1919 - 1920) sent him to U.S. for further studies of Naval Engineering. He joined the Cambridge Institute of Technology, Massachusetts. In 1924 graduated from naval architect and engineer. He and graduate school in 1925 received a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering.

He returned to Paraguay and during the constitutional government of Eligio Ayala (1924-1928). The March 9 1925, was appointed director of the War and Navy dockyards, by decree 20297. In March 1927, the president commissioned him Ayala Europe for ordering the construction of two boats of army that would protect the Paraguay River in the imminent war with Bolivia. Bozzano departed with the plans that he himself had designed.

After contacts with yards England and Germany, it was decided to entrust the job of signing Italian Odero-Terni-Orlando. The boats of army Paraguay and Humaitá arrived in Paraguay on May 5 year 1931.

The December 28 that year, Bozzano returned to the direction of the dockyards. The war came into this unit and was preparing the "iron", thus called him.

During the War

The dockyards saved lots of money to Paraguay, because there were manufactured more than 300,000 hand grenades, the famous carumbe `i, which, for pride of Paraguayans in the war proved more effective than the SIP grenades, manufacturing Belgian, Used by Bolivians) and were built and assembled the bodies of 2,308 trucks (at a rate of 5 per hour). Alike, were manufactured 25 thousand big for some 7,500 mortar bombs and aviation. Another of his feats was the manufacture of mortars with 23 columns of the old trams. At the same time were made stretchers 4,300 tubes of iron or MOTHER, beds, stoves, autoclaves and up to trepanation brain strawberries. The water well drilling in the Chaco (such as those in Yrendague) also was the work of actual stockpiles.

Under the command of Captain Bozzano were 4,400 drivers in Chaco, for whom the hard military naval save a reverential admiration. He was appointed CEO of Aviation, March 7 1933. There was also a promoter of unforgettable deeds carried out by pilots of war.

Culture

He owned a large and impressive culture generally. He spoke Italian English, French and had extensive knowledge of Greek and Latin. He read Stefan Zweig, Emerson, Kant Schiller and Goethe. Among the writers Paraguayans preferred to Manuel Dominguez Cecilio Báez Fariña Eloy Nunez Carlos Zubizarreta and Ruben Bareiro Saguier.

One of its most facets unknown and surprising is that he graduated from teacher after studying piano with Nicolino Pellegrini. His companion was piano studies John Stefanich, which was, along with Adriano Irala, creator of the Independent National League. Bozzano linger on Chopin and enjoyed the music Paraguayan (his favorite song was Ñasaindype, Felix Fernandez and Jose Asuncion Flores. The last years of his life working as surprised modestly in family owned shipyard in the area of Varadero. But his attitude remained impressive. It was a living legend of the nation's history.

Works and Achievements

He made his brief but very valuable writing, "Reminiscences," which discusses the history of the dockyards in the war. It started as a velatorio made at the request of Justo Pastor Benitez, who thought to include it in one of his historical works, but ended up being a book by its own value.

Bozzano was the soldier Paraguayan more training in science and technology. Their designs of dockyards Paraguay and Humaitá caused admiration in England. In 1932 1935 commanded to 6,000 unsung heroes who for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without forged iron with the decadence that won the war.

The Captain Jose Alfredo Bozzano Baglietto, referring inescapable talent, desire and behavior, is a Paraguayan worthy of recall.

After the contest, in which Bozzano not rested, was decorated with the Red del Chaco. He continued to serve the country in different positions. During the Government of Félix Paiva (1937-1939), was appointed minister of War and Navy, the April 12 year 1938 and then minister of Economy, 14 October year 1938. He also served as municipal mayor of Asuncion and teaching at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (Engineering) from the National University of Asuncion.

The summons of the Order of the Army inserted in the decree which gave the Red del Chaco, is what drew the captain Jose Bozzano as "one of the most authentic workers victory." I admire José Félix Estigarribia, as he so admired him.

Death

The captain Bozzano died on December 14 1969.
