Chalene Johnson Born February 2, 1969 Residence Mission Viejo, California Occupation Physical fitness expert Height 5'2" (1.57 m) Spouse Married, two children Chalene Johnson is an American physical fitness expert, choreographer, author, and entrepreneur. [1] Chalene Johnson started studying dance and martial arts at age 3. She continued training in tae kwon do, dance, and aerobics while a student at Michigan State University. After moving to California in the early '90s, she created a group exercise class that combined the sexiness of dance, the hip feel of funk, and the power and strength of kickboxing. This led to the creation of Turbo Jam home fitness exercise program. Since Turbo Jam, Johnson has launched the very similar Turbo kick, PiYo, and Hip Hop Hustle which are all available in gyms in the United States and Australia.[2] She has also launched TurboFire, which is a DVD beach body exercise program.[3]

Turbo Jam
Chalene is most notable for creating the exercise video system known as Turbo Jam, developed and sold by Beachbody. She combined music, dancing, and martial arts as a basis for her workout system. She began working on her Turbo Jam idea in 1997, trying to perfect and develop her system. She continued to develop and promote it until she sold over four million products by 2006.[4][5]
Other projects
Along with Turbo Jam, Chalene Johnson created other workout systems including Turbo Kick, PiYo, Hip Hop Hustle, and Platinum Presenter Camp. Also, she is the CEO of Powder Blue Productions. She was one of three finalists for fitness Instructor of the Year, awarded by "IDEA Health and Fitness Association", and was the international speaker for the 2007 IDEA Fusion Convention. Johnson has also appeared on television networks QVC and E! as a fitness expert, (often promoting Turbo Jam). In January 2009, Chalene released a new strength training program entitled ChaLEAN Extreme. In June 2010, Chalene introduced a new workout program titled TurboFire which focuses on HIIT Training.
