Electrovaya Inc. (TSXEFL) is a developer and manufacturer of portable power solutions[clarification needed], especially a Lithium-ion battery. They also manufacture tablet pcs. The company is based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Overview

Electrovaya designs, develops and manufactures proprietary Lithium Ion SuperPolymer batteries, battery systems, and battery-related products for the clean transportation, smart grid power, consumer and healthcare markets. The Company’s mission is to accelerate clean transportation as a commercial reality with its advanced power system for all classes of zero-emission electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.[citation needed]

Electrovaya has over 150 patents, issued and pending.[citation needed] These protect its proprietary: SuperPolymer battery technology; and Systems technologies (iBMS, packaging design, systems design)

It is a publicly traded company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol EFL. The founders of the company, Sankar Das Gupta and Jim Jacobs, began their research into battery technologies in 1983. The company went public in 2000.

Electric vehicles

In January 2008, Electrovaya launched the Maya-300, a low-speed electric car for city driving [1].

Tata

Electrovaya is partnering with Tata Motors and Miljø Grenland/Innovasjon to manufacture batteries and electric cars using Electrovaya’s Lithium Ion SuperPolymer battery technology [2].

The Tata Indica EV is scheduled to be launched in Norway in 2009 and India in 2010. Electrovaya’s batteries are expected to go 120 miles (190 km) on a single charge. [3].

Car-sharing

The U.S. nation's first all-electric car-sharing program has debuted at Baltimore's Inner Harbor, with manufacturer Electrovaya that is offering its Maya-300 for rent at the Maryland Science Center. The car can go up to 120 miles (190 km) on one charge of its lithium-ion battery system.[4]
