- Becks Run
Becks Run is a tributary of the
Monongahela River . It is heavily polluted, receivingcombined sewer outflow fromCarrick (Pittsburgh) [cite web |title=Notices Page 8. |url=http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:DAm5SeIr_goJ:www.pabulletin.com/secure/data/vol28/28-52/28_52_not.pdf+%22Becks+Run%22+%22coal+mine%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=9&gl=us |accessdate=2008-07-29] andMount Oliver, Pennsylvania . There is awaterfall on a tributary, just downstream from a slate dump, near the intersection of Walter Avenue and Mountain Avenue. There were coal mines along the stream, including Becks Run #2 , owned by the estate of James H. Hays [cite web |title=Lower St. Clair Township History |url=http://abbott-lavalle.info/places/lowerstclair.html |accessdate=2008-07-26] , and mines operated by Jones & Laughlin, and the Birmingham Coal Company.
