United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 6.9square mile s (18.0km² ), of which, 6.9 square miles (17.9 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.72%) is water.Adamsville is located primarily in McNairy County; only a small part of the municipal area lies in Hardin County.

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,983 people, 835 households, and 552 families residing in the town. Thepopulation density was 287.3 people per square mile (111.0/km²). There were 937 housing units at an average density of 135.8/sq mi (52.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.13% White, 1.01% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.10% Asian, and 0.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.50% of the population.There were 835 households out of which 25.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.8% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.73.
In the town the population was spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 25.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 72.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 70.6 males.
