- Tyuleniy Island (Sea of Okhotsk)
Tyuleniy Island (Ostrov Tyuleniy) is a small island in the
Sea of Okhotsk . It is located 19 Km to the south ofCape Patience (Mys Terpeniya), off the southern end of theTerpeniya Peninsula in the easternSakhalin coast.Tyuleniy is 1.6 Km in length and 850 m wide.
There are many
seal s in Tyuleniy's shores and its surrounding waters, hence its name which means "seal" in Russian. It was formerly called "Robben Island" from the German name for seal.
