Hillandale is an unincorporated area located on the boundary between Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, Maryland.

Geography

As an unincorporated area, Hillandale's boundaries are not officially defined. Hillandale is, however, recognized by the United States Census Bureau as a Census-designated Place, and by the United States Geological Survey as a populated place located at coor dms|39|1|32|N|76|58|0|W|city (39.025609, -76.966795)GR|1. It is part of the very large postal designation Silver Spring, MD.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the place has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.2 km²).None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 3,054 people, 1,087 households, and 846 families residing in the area. The population density was 2,465.6 people per square mile (950.9/km²). There were 1,110 housing units at an average density of 896.2/sq mi (345.6/km²). The racial makeup of the area was 55.40% White, 25.57% African American, 0.46% Native American, 9.66% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 5.86% from other races, and 3.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.39% of the population.

There were 1,087 households out of which 27.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.1% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.1% were non-families. 16.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the area, the population was spread out with 20.0% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 29.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.1 males.

The median income for a household in the area was $75,650, and the median income for a family was $88,802. Males had a median income of $46,107 versus $36,724 for females. The per capita income for the area was $27,861. About 1.1% of families and 3.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 5.0% of those age 65 or over.
