Mark Rowden was born in Margate, England in 1979. He left school to study full time at a local art college. Finishing this course after a year he then moved to Sydney, Australia, in the late-1990s. He continued his studies for four more years, two of which were at the National Art School, where he became friends with many young artists, as well as gaining the support of a master printer, Diana Davidson, who owned her own printmaking studio called Whaling Road Studios, which has been running for thirty years. This is where Rowden became her clean hands then moved up the ranks to printer, working on prints by some of Australia's leading artists, Charles Blackman, Adam Cullen, Martin Sharp and Peter Kingston amongst others, enhancing his skills and knowledge previously learned from his five years of art education. Rowden tuned to his own work which was mainly relief prints. He has also been a finalist in the 'Hazelhurst works on Paper Prize' and won the Waverley Printmaking art prize in 2008.
